This is a "word-of-the-day" mailing list in name only; it is at the mercy of one extremely frazzled person's schedule. A good month will see twenty-five words; a difficult one will see about ten.
The mailing list was begun when its administrator was boning up for the GRE, which is a prerequisite for admission at many U.S. graduate schools. Where before they were plucked out of the scummy ether, today the words come from fine magazines and whatever books are being read. There is no end in sight!
Also, we have cornered the market on Google searches for "esprit d'escalier" and "pictures of narwhals" and "origin of the word Hobbesian." Won't you subscribe?
